The use of artificial intelligence makes it possible to conduct more efficient and reliable analyses than those done manually, as is currently the case. A study conducted by the Aquatic Research Division of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian start-up Whale Seeker reveals that the artificial intelligence tool called Möbius, developed by Whale Seeker, provides significant efficiency gains in aerial image analysis.
Möbius was able to analyze 5,500 images in only 53 hours, whereas it took researchers 1,300 hours to do the same amount of work manually. This productivity gain is coupled with by superior reliability of the analyses carried out. Thus, this technology considerably accelerates the image analysis process while ensuring a higher level of reliability in the analyses rendered.
A useful tool to reduce risks and better protect marine diversity
Detecting animals, such as whales and seals, has always been a difficult task. While this has been done manually until now, the use of artificial intelligence technologies such as Möbius will allow us to be significantly more effective in protecting endangered species, facilitating the movement of commercial vessels, and avoiding unnecessary closures of fishing areas.
