FAQ

Our main priority is ETA, how do Whale Seeker® Responsible Routes impact ETA? We understand it - time is money at sea. Whale Seeker® Responsible Routes are designed to avoid critical habitats without compromising operational efficiency. We monitor adoption rates because we understand that implementation may have to be progressive or not feasible for certain specific shipments.

Do I have to start adopting Whale Seeker® Responsible Routes for all my routes? Start small or go big: you can start by trialing one route, one season, or one region. Early adopters often begin with high-risk areas or during peak seasons for marine mammals. We will work out a rhythm that fits your operations and achievable yet ambitious targets for future improvements.

Ships cannot be maneuvered easily to avoid a ship strike, how can your solution help? The solution lies in prevention and efficient route planning. Whale Seeker® Responsible Routes provide pre-voyage routing recommendations based on scientific data as well as marine mammal monitoring. By planning ahead and navigating outside or slowing down in high-risk zones, your vessels can effectively reduce risks and situations where maneuvering would be necessary. It’s about smart, planned choices that fit your operations and sustainability ambitions.

Which data does Whale Seeker use to establish responsible routes? Whale Seeker uses a powerful combination of habitat information and marine mammal observations. Route recommendations are based on science and validated by experts in marine biology.

Does information on adoption and impact have to be issued at any particular time of the designated year? For early adopters, Whale Seeker will adopt to your operational calendar and sustainability reporting cycles. As the program will evolve this may be adjusted to better reflect our adopters’ and other stakeholder needs.

How will Whale Seeker publish the list of adopters? Transparency builds trust. Whale Seeker maintains a public list of adopters on our website and recognize them in our annual report. You will also receive a communications kit to help share your leadership story.

Where can I learn more about adoption and Whale Seeker® tools? More information on Whale Seeker tools are available in the product section of our website.
